The Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology has sponsored the Perlman Symposium on Antibiotic Discovery and Development since 2010. This symposium is made possible by a generous gift from Kato Perlman in memory of David Perlman who was the Dean of the School of Pharmacy from 1968-75.

David Perlman was born and educated in Madison, Wisconsin. David Perlman was the Dean of the School of Pharmacy from 1968-75. Prior to coming to the UW, he worked 23 years in the pharmaceutical industry including stints at Hoffman-LaRoche, Merck and Squibb. He held 23 U.S. patents on antibiotics and their modifications. Thus, the Perlman Symposium aims to honor the accomplishments of David Perlman by bringing together individuals who share an excitement and interest in antibiotics.
